Trust is the key element when working on a personal project such as that of a young family’s backyard. The clients wanted to create a backyard retreat that would afford them the opportunity to create lasting memories with their children, but also to entertain their friends and family alike. Their dog Biscuit too! The design aesthetic that they wanted to achieve was that of a rustic mountain escape, paying homage to their roots in upstate New York and New Hampshire. Reclaimed granite slabs and natural boulders were used to retain and define the varying levels around this site. The 12 feet plus of elevation change on this site carried tremendous weight from the onset of the design process. These dramatic grade changes created a unique opportunity to nestle in an in-ground pool, a stunning pool house and last, but certainly not least, layered patio spaces for lounging and entertaining. Intentionally blending these hardscape elements into the landscape itself, making them feel as if they have always been a part of this woodland landscape.
