We knew this was going to be a special project from the very beginning. It was clear from the initial consultation that the creative brain trust for this project was going to deliver an incredible space for the clients. The clients’ home already exhibited breathtaking architecture, and the surrounding property offered a tremendous opportunity for an outdoor living space. We needed to create a backyard patio space that not only functioned at a high level, but highlighted the home’s distinctive character. We accomplished this by creating multiple outdoor spaces flowing seamlessly from the home and out into their sprawling property. Once we had the curvilinear silhouette of the bluestone patio, we then had to devise a way to delineate these spaces without disconnecting them. Utilizing the contours of the site, we lowered the fire pit portion of the patio to create a more intimate environment. This also afforded us the opportunity to make a connection with the clients’ existing lower spa and shower area. Through the use of custom curved bluestone treads, we were able to keep the seamless curvilinear nature of the patio, while doubling as additional seating around the fire pit. The upper portion of the patio served as the perfect outdoor dining space for our client’s. It has become one of their favorite spaces on the property, second only to their fire pit space, where they enjoy hosting dinner parties, or simply enjoying meals with their family.
