Project Details

Initially, the discussion was for a pea stone area with some picnic tables. However, once the clients had seen what we were capable of at one of their other locations, they opened up to the true potential of this space! Taking full advantage of this waterfront location we wanted to offer guests a space to kick back and relax when they’re not out on the water. We built a space to accommodate friends and family but also encourage interaction with other guests by creating a central fire pit at the heart of this design. The extra-large white washed paver slabs mirror the makeup of the sky and its reflection on the water while the circular herringbone pays homage to the deck boards composing the nearby docks. The shade sails are a fun play on the marina motif but also offer a sense of scale and a welcome reprieve on sunny summer days. Nautical furniture and a mix of native grasses and plant materials soften this space and create separation from the parking area. It is incredible to look back at this project and think of all the challenges we were able to overcome to create such an enjoyable space for so many. From the spider web of buried utilities to propane restrictions near the water’s edge to salt spray and seagulls, this space came with its challenges, but it was certainly well worth it!
